ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORMS

My friends - if you are out of work - or expect to be looking for a job soon - now is not the time to focus on the negative.  Things will turn around - but you have to remain positive and put yourself in the best position possible to take advantage of opportunities when they arise.  So turn off the news and the constant drumbeat of negativity - and spend some time online to learn new skills.  There are numerous online platforms that offer robust programs with a variety of courses - and many are free.   You can find a Youtube training video on just about anything.  If you would like a little more structure and sophistication - and you already have a LinkedIn account they offer numerous learning videos https://www.linkedin.com.

Two other learning platforms I highly recommend that you peruse are:

https://www.khanacademy.org

https://www.coursera.org

Remaining active and productive by refresh existing skills or learn new ones will not only help you in your job search - it will be good for your overall wellness.  Take good care my friends and I will be back with more information soon!

Job Leads Updated 6/18/20

LinkedIn is an incredible resource but there are three platforms to help you build your network beyond LinkedIn that you may not know about.

Ladies Get Paid is a private Slack group that is a whisper network for unposted jobs and salary advice. Women post interest in a job, and others working with that company refer them directly to the recruiter to help them land interviews. It will take the moderators a few days to review your request to join, but patience will pay off with this one. https://www.ladiesgetpaid.com/

The Riveter is a coworking space for women that just launched its very own online community. Similar to Ladies Get Paid, it is well worth looking into and helps expanding your network. https://theriveter.co/

Fishbowl is an APP for both male and female professionals that can be a great source for unposted jobs and industry information. Couple of thing to keep in mind with Fishbowl, it is restricted to certain industries including; marketing, advertising, finance, education, law and consulting. You do have to have a corporate email address to join. https://www.fishbowlapp.com/

The U.S. Government is hiring many positions; to browse their careers https://careers.state.gov/work/available-jobs/

Northeast Companies that are Hiring:

States have begun allowing nonessential businesses to reopen in phases, prompting restaurants, shops, hair salons and others to rehire at least some of the employees they laid off or furloughed to stem the spread of the coronavirus. Many small businesses received federal loans that are forgivable if they retain or rehire employees.

Trends we are seeing in the Northeast: New positions including consultants who help businesses manage the crisis, shot up 59%. According to Glassdoor data, postings increased by a third for information technology specialists, including experts who help employees set up remote computer networks. More broadly, demand has risen for tech workers, accountants, lawyers and creative directors in industries that are stable or growing, such as e-commerce, health care, financial services and insurance.

We are seeing an increase in Bank hiring as low-interest rates spur more mortgage refinancing and employees are needed to handle the demand for the government's small-business loan programs.

Companies are emphasizing a higher focus on inclusive, diverse hiring initiatives. Many companies around the world have pledged more than a billion dollars for racial and social justice causes amid worldwide protests.

Unemployment Insurance Resources

COVID-19 Update: NYS is waiving the 7-Day waiting period for Unemployment Insurance benefits for people who are out of work due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) closures or quarantines.

I know these are stressful times. The situation is very fluid so I suggest that you check the New York Department of Labor website regularly https://www.labor.ny.gov/home. You can also call 1-888-469-7365. The volume of calls and traffic to their site has increased dramatically as you might expect. So please be patient. They are helping everyone and will help you too. I will update this post as I have more information. Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay positive.

Best,

Greg
